Comcast Cable was started in 1963 after Julian Brodsky, Ralph Roberts and Daniel Aaron bought out a cable system operating in Tupelo, MS. At the time of purchase, the cable system had 1,200 customers.

The company, originally American Cable Systems, was renamed Comcast Corporation in 1969. By 1986, Comcast Cable had 1.2 million customers. With hard work and ingenuity, Comcast Cable grew to provide service for over 24 million customers, currently.

Comcast Cable founders and CEOs have won awards and honors over the years, like the Distinguished Vanguard Award in 1987 and 1993. In 2002, Daniel Aaron, one Comcast Cable founder, received the honor of being inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame. Comcast Cable was also named in Money Magazine as one out of the top five companies that had the top performing stocks. In 2003, Comcast Cable received the Vanguard Award for Science and Technology”, Ralph Roberts was awarded the “Trustees Award” and Julian Brodsky was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame. There have been other awards and honors awarded during the course of time.

Comcast Cable also introduced HDTV service, On Demand service and G4, which was a network that was made entirely of news, entertainment, information on current video games and information on the Interactive Entertainment Industry.

Over the years, Comcast Cable has grown to include cable TV programming, phone and internet services. Their cable TV services packages include over two hundred and fifty channels, with digital and HD. Their On Demand selections include over 10,000 additional programs and Pay Per View selections that provide live events for sports, comedy events and music concerts. Comcast Cable also offers their services with a DVR and Parental Controls. These family-friendly services have been entertaining families for decades.

In 2002, Comcast Cable merged with AT&T to provide customers with high-speed broadband and digital phone services. Currently, their broadband high-speed internet services are up to six times faster than DSL, and over one hundred times faster than dial up. These online services come with free online security software from McAfee.

The Comcast Cable phone services include unlimited local and long distance calling to anywhere in the United States and Canada. They offer calling features like call waiting, call forwarding, three way calling and other features for convenience and portability. They also offer voicemail that sends and email notification to the user’s Comcast Cable free email account when a new voicemail is received. Subscribers can use this service to check voicemail from any where in the world that has an internet connection.

Comcast Cable also owns several networks besides G4. They own E! Entertainment Television, The Style Network, the Golf Channel, TV One, PBS KIDS Sprout, VERSUS, Exercise TV, FEARnet and the Comcast Sports Group. The Comcast Sports Group has 11 sports networks that broadcast sports 24/7.

Comcast Cable has grown from 1,200 customers to over 24 million monthly subscribers, offering quality products and entertainment with a wide variety of viewing options. They have grown to be the largest cable TV provider in the nation, offering everything families need for entertainment and communication.
