Their prices are generally more reasonable than monthly subscriptions through cable TV providers and their products and services are comparable. They offer deals and promotions, like free installations or free equipment, plus monthly packages that start at very competitive rates.
For programming and viewing features, they offer HDTV, or High Definition Television, as well as HDTV 1080p. The HDTV 1080p offers resolutions up to six times higher than that of standard broadcasting formats, for extreme clarity in the sound and picture quality of the image. The 1080p formatting has been compared to Blue Ray technology. The movies shown in this formatting can be found in the DIRECTV on DEMAND feature that gives the viewer a selection of new movie releases and older movies and programs to watch. Direct TV also offers Pay Per View channels, and a DVR or Digital Video Recorder that can record shows on one channel while the viewer is watching another channel. The DVR option can be set in person or online. The DVR service is also used to control the picture on live TV events for Pay Per View selections, so that the user is actually able to fast forward, rewind or pause the events in real time.
They have a large selection of channels and own their own network. It is called The 101 Network that is only available to Direct TV subscribers. They offer several programming packages including everything from children’s programming to DIY channels and cultural channels. They also offer premium movie channels with certain packages, like HBO, STARZ, Showtime and Cinemax. Direct TV also offers programming packages in Spanish, and their largest package comes with over two hundred and fifty channels. Direct TV also carries local channels like ION Television, MyNetworkTV, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, The CW and Fox. Other programming options Direct TV customers are offered are the sports packages like NFL Sunday Ticket, with exclusive rights being held by Direct TV, the NCAA Mega March Madness and the NASCAR Hot Pass.
Direct TV has grown from a little known company to having a well-known name and reputation. They offer great technical support and other services that not only helped build their business, but also helped it expand to include over 18 million monthly US subscribers. Direct TV has brought affordability and viewing selection to the customer’s home for convenience and entertainment.
