When cable TV was first introduced for commercial use in homes, everyone wanted it. It was a great source of entertainment for friends and family after work or school. There were children’s shows and movie channels, sports and news channels that covered local and regional events and music channels. After a while though, people wanted more, so cable TV providers stepped up to offer more channels, more choices and more programming packages to meet the needs and the budget of any family or individual.

The technology that made this possible started with the digital feed that cable TV providers used to bring better pictures and sound, more reliability in service with the added benefits of HDTV, or High Definition programming. Additional benefits go further to include the use of the DVR, or Digital Video Recorder that can be used with the Pay Per View option that was developed. DVR allows the user to fast forward, pause or rewind live television events like new movie releases or even championship fights or live music concerts. Parental Controls were also added to give the adults in the house the ability to control the content their children are watching on TV. They have the option of keeping their children away from adult content or inappropriate material for their age group. To add to the benefit of Cable TV, providers have added channels so that now they have the opportunity to provide up to two hundred and fifty channels with everything from weather to ethnic programming and the theater.

Digital technology also opened the door for faster internet connections and speeds, blowing dial up out of the water. Digital, or broadband connections, are up to three times faster than DSL and the connection is never lost, as with dial up. Downloads are available now faster than ever, allowing for larger file downloads or transfers to get the latest in games, music, movies or videos without the slow wait time. Cable TV has also made security enhancements for internet services like free security software that downloads and updates automatically. This gives added protection against spyware, viruses and unwanted popups.

Cable TV providers did not stop there, though. They took digital technology to the next level with digital phone services that can be included in the monthly bill for a bundled package, saving the consumer time and money. Many providers offer their local and long-distance plan to anywhere in the United States or Canada for one low monthly rate. Many calling plans include ten to twelve features like call forwarding, call waiting and caller id included in the monthly rate.

It is possible to get all of these features in one low monthly rate to avoid paying three providers every month. When bundled, these great services are discounted to offset the monthly cost and benefit any budget. Many people opt to get the bundles because of the services provided and the cheaper rates.

Cable TV providers and services have grown to include so much more than just Cable TV. With the added benefits and services provided by digital cable, phone and internet connections, Cable TV has grown to offer entertainment and quality communication services.
