Sony Entertainment plans to launch its Next Generation computer entertainment system, the Playstation 3, soon – Spring 2006. This promises to be unrivaled in performance and will introduce the Cell Processor and many other advanced technologies – all compatible with Playstation and Playstation 2.

Playstation 3 features Cell, a processor developed by six leading entertainment companies: SCEI, Rambus, Inc., IBM, NVIDIA Corporation, Sony, and Toshiba. It also has Blu-ray Disc ROM with a maximum storage of up to 54 gigabytes (dual layer). This new creation delivers entertainment content in high-definition quality through advanced technology under copyright protection. Playstation 3’s technology features a high resolution of 2080 progressive scan method as standard – a step above 720 progressive scan method/1080 interface method. Computer power is increased to 2 teraflops (a new graphics expression never before possible). All characters and objects are more refined and realistic and landscapes and environments are presented in real time. Consumers will be able to enter the world as it is seen and experience all the action in real time. With over 13,000 game titles available, all software is compatible on Playstation, Playstation 2, and Playstation 3 systems.

Playstations are sold in over 120 countries world wide, with Sony Entertainment being the undisputed leader in gaming systems. Combined research and development provide Playstation 3 with the most advanced system offered in the market. Several companies working have provided Sony with the latest in gaming innovations. Real-time 3D computer graphics are enhanced and delivered by the Cell processor with a super computer like performance. Soft wear producers from all over the world are frantically creating content for new games, making Playstation 3 the most sought after gaming system – formatting quality as one can never imagine to make reality just a bit closer to science fiction films. Goals are to develop and produce exciting and new game play experiences for avid gamers. It has been said by some that new games are being created and are limited only by the creators’ imagination. Efforts are made to combine technology with artistic expression to provide the ultimate in gaming and interactive entertainment systems.

Definitive release and pricing information are still unknown and rumors abound, but it is expected and hoped that the new Playstation 3 console will be on the market in the Spring of 2006, with the price being about the same as or a bit more than Xbox 360. Reliable rumoring, as reliable as a rumor can be, indicate the price range to be somewhere between $399 to 499. As with all rumors and speculations, we just have to wait and see, but we do know that the wait is almost over. Spring promises a new and exciting adventure in interactive gaming.
