If you're looking for the best value for the telecommunications services that you need in your home- basically, a phone line, TV, and high speed Internet- then you've probably stumbled across a number of different companies that offer those services in bundled packages. In case you aren't familiar with this concept, many companies will bundle together two or more of their services so that they're invoiced on one bill so that you only have to write one check every month for all of the telecommunications services that you use in your home. In addition to this greater level of convenience, most of these companies will also give you a discount because you're “buying in bulk” so to speak. You might be wondering what the companies that offer these bundles get out of it. It's actually pretty simple. They get more business, and in exchange for the extra business, it makes sense for them to provide a discount to you.

Like anything else though, subscribing to a bundled service package from some random company isn't going to guarantee you the best value because of the fact that there's a surprising variety in the types of companies offering bundled packages. Generally speaking, there are two types of bundled service packages that you'll be able to choose from. One is the type that's provided by a single cable TV company like Time Warner Cable. The other is provided by an alliance of your local phone company, a satellite TV company, and possibly a satellite Internet company. In order to really get the type of bundle that's right for you, it's a good idea to know about the differences between these two general types of bundles.

The type of bundle offered by Time Warner Cable packages is fairly simple. In this type, the same company, in this case Time Warner Cable, delivers digital cable TV, broad band digital cable high speed Internet, and digital home phone service. The digital cable TV service can provide about three hundred channels and includes HDTV channels, video on demand service, and the option of access to a digital video recorder. The broad band digital cable high speed Internet service provides the fastest form of residential access to the Internet available in most parts of the country with download speeds of eight megabytes per second. The digital phone service provides all of the calling features that you're probably accustomed to using, at a very low flat rate. In addition to that, you get unlimited long distance calls to numbers in the US and Canada.

The service that you get form the other type of bundle isn't nearly as good. The satellite TV provides a comparable number of channels, but doesn't lend itself as well to the video on demand options that will be increasingly relied upon in the future. The high speed Internet that's provided by the phone service in the form of DSL or by a satellite Internet service can't compare to Time Warner Cable Internet service in terms of speed and reliability. And with a calling plan from a traditional phone company, you'll be stuck with the same high rates that you are now.

In other words, if you can get a bundled package from a company like Time Warner Cable, you should definitely go for it.
