High speed Internet access is becoming increasingly necessary in or homes, and at the same time, there are more and more things that a high speed Internet connection is necessary to download. Because of this phenomenon, it has become necessary to get the fastest Internet connection possible for your home. This is easier said than done though because of the great number of Internet access technologies out there. Fortunately, we can narrow down the number of technologies at least somewhat by eliminating dial up Internet access. After all, dial up Internet access is definitely not a high speed technology by any measure- as anyone who has compared it to a faster form of Internet access can attest to.

Of course, there are still a lot of other Internet technologies to choose from that are at least marketed as high speed Internet technologies. These included DSL, satellite Internet, WiFi, and broad band cable. Within all of these services there's a fair amount of diversity. For example, DSL alone can range in speed from two hundred and fifty six kilobytes per second all the way up to about three megabytes per second. Satellite Internet has a similar range of different speeds, and WiFi varies enormously depending on how many computers and other devices are attempting to take advantage of a single access point. When it comes to getting high speeds, and getting them reliably, a broad band cable high speed Internet access from a company like Comcast is the ideal choice.

Broad band cable high speed Internet access definitely requires greater scrutiny. Comcast Offers a version of it can provide download speeds of up to eight megabytes per second. It also has the advantage of always being on so that you don't have to mess around with logging in whenever you want to use it. (Of course these other technologies have that same feature.) One area in which broad band cable high speed Internet access has the others beat is is in the area of reliability. That's because it takes advantage of the same buried cables that provide Comcast's digital cable TV service, which makes the high speed Internet service virtually immune to the effects of the weather. That's something that cannot be said for WiFi, satellite Internet, or any DSL that takes advantage of above ground phone lines.

Of course the matter of cost can make a big difference in subscribing to any service, and high speed Internet is certainly no exception. For example. DSL can be extremely cheap, but in it's most economical versions it's really not significantly faster than dial up. WiFi can be free in many stores and restaurants, but unless you're lucky enough to live in an area with municipal WiFi, you're unlikely to be able to take advantage of it at home. Satellite Internet is extremely expensive both in terms of start up costs for equipment and for the monthly fee. In fact, it's probably the most expensive route you can take to get Internet service in your home. At least in the case of Comcast, residential broad band cable Internet service is much more economical than competing technologies are. It costs about the same a the higher end DSL subscriptions- even though it's more than twice as fast- and it's about half the monthly cost of satellite Internet, if not less.

Therefore broad band cable high speed Comcast Internet is definitely the service to seek out for use in your own home.
