For cable television customers, times just keep getting better. Customers of companies like Comcast have been experiencing a rise in new television technologies that are making television viewing easier and of higher quality. Technology of the television sector has really taken off as of late, resulting in many new options for viewers, and the increase in new technologies does not appear to be slackening in pace. For Comcast customers, the new technologies include digital television, digital video recorders, On Demand television, Digital Video Switching, and much more. Many of the new television technologies are based on the digital format, which means they weren't possible until the recent switch of all Comcast programming to digital. While the older analog format was fine for television viewing for many decades, new technologies had made the analog format outdated and of inferior quality. With the rise of digital home entertainment technologies, it was just a matter of time before cable television was updated to the format. Now, thanks to the update, Comcast Cable providers can deliver a higher level of picture and sound quality and many more viewing possibilities. Digital television gives a much clearer picture than analog and enhances the sound. You can compare the difference in quality between digital and analog format by watching a video tape and a DVD in quick succession. You will notice that the DVD is much clearer and that the sound is better. You also get more interactive features and options with a DVD, which points out another major difference between the two formats.

Because Comcast has switched to the digital format, the company now offers many features that they did not offer before. The electronic program guide is a basic and very useful feature that is now being offered, as are parental controls. Some of the more advanced features that use digital technology are much more exciting, such as HDTV, On Demand programming, and the DVR. All of these features are meant to seriously enhance the television viewing experience by using the most cutting edge technologies.

On Demand television and the DVR are both part of the same trend towards more viewer control over television viewing. It only makes sense that as people get busier and free time is at more of a premium that the demand for more viewing flexibility would grow. This is what is making both On Demand and the digital video recorder so popular. Comcast offers both of these technologies ensuring that its customers can fit the television to their schedules instead of the other way around.

Digital Video Switching is perhaps the most exciting new technology out there. While still in its inception, this technology is promising to circumvent all of the problems associated with bandwidth limitations. Especially as high definition television takes up a larger percentage of all television viewed, having the ability to digital switch video will give Comcast an advantage over all other television providers. While other television providers will struggle with providing enough programming over limited bandwidth, Comcast should be able to offer up to thousands of channels to its customers without any limitations. This technology combined with other technologies such as On Demand, should make future television very interesting and flexible.

Though technology cannot solve every world problem, it makes it a lot easier to get great entertainment and more choices. Comcast's embracement of the newest technologies is bringing great options to its customers and ensuring the maximum number of choices.
