Parental Controls let you limit what your kids can and can't watch, even when you can't be there to supervise them, by setting up automated guidelines for which types of programming can and can't be displayed. For example, if you want to block every movie with certain MPAA ratings, you can just program Direct TV's Parental Controls to do it for you. You can also block off entire channels or entire chunks of time when your kids won't be able to watch TV at all. You can also set Pay Per View spending limits so you won't suddenly find that your entire retirement fund has been spent on Rambo movies. If you want more specific control, the Parental Controls can accommodate you there too, by allowing you to block specific TV shows. One of the best technologies when it comes to taking control of how you watch television is a Digital Video Recorder which is also available from Direct TV. A Digital Video Recorder, or DVR as it's also often called, is pretty much a hard disk that's built into the satellite receiver box. Special Direct TV software records TV shows and movies on the hard disk, regardless of when they air so that you can watch them when you want. One model will store up to seventy hours of standard definition programming, and the other model will store up to two hundred hours of standard definition programming or thirty hours of high definition programming. A DVR is a great way to make sure that you don't miss any of your favorite programming.
