Technology has an enormous amount of power to make life more convenient, more enjoyable, and all around better. Nobody understands this better than Direct TV, which is why it's gone to a lot of trouble to make sure that it provides plenty of great user friendly technology that enhances the experience of watching its programming. The basic technology that Direct TV includes in all of its programming packages digital television format for all of its programming and user friendly interactive features. Digital television enhances the experience of watching television by providing a vividly clear picture and CD quality sound. Digital Television makes this possible because Direct TV's satellite receivers can cleanse it of all but the worst picture and sound spoiling interference.

The interactive features that Direct TV makes a part of every subscription includes a variety of software that will help you manage all of the hundred of channels that your subscription is likely to contain. Face it, channel surfing just isn't going to cut it when you're trying to decide what to watch when it comes to hundreds of channels, and that's why there's the on screen program guide. Direct TV's on screen program guide is essentially a table that comes up on your TV screen that presents listings for all of the television shows that you can choose among. Each cell is occupied by all of the information about a television show including when it was made, casting information, run time, MPAA rating if applicable, and a synopsis of the plot. You can scroll sideways to see what will be on in the near future, and up and down to see what other channels have to offer.

Another great piece of software that comes with all Direct TV subscriptions is the Parental Control software. Parental Controls let you limit what your kids can and can't watch, even when you can't be there to supervise them, by setting up automated guidelines for which types of programming can and can't be displayed. For example, if you want to block every movie with certain MPAA ratings, you can just program Direct TV's Parental Controls to do it for you. You can also block off entire channels or entire chunks of time when your kids won't be able to watch TV at all. You can also set Pay Per View spending limits so you won't suddenly find that your entire retirement fund has been spent on Rambo movies. If you want more specific control, the Parental Controls can accommodate you there too, by allowing you to block specific TV shows. Most importantly, you can still watch whatever you want just by using a unique personal identification number.

One of the best technologies when it comes to taking control of how you watch television is a Digital Video Recorder which is also available from Direct TV. A Digital Video Recorder, or DVR as it's also often called, is pretty much a hard disk that's built into the satellite receiver box. Special Direct TV software records TV shows and movies on the hard disk, regardless of when they air so that you can watch them when you want. One model will store up to seventy hours of standard definition programming, and the other model will store up to two hundred hours of standard definition programming or thirty hours of high definition programming. A DVR is a great way to make sure that you don't miss any of your favorite programming.

Direct TV knows that value of technology and has made every effort to include technologies that will enhance everyday TV viewing with its services.
