Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) television sets are among the most popular model of flat-screen TVs on the market. They offer a number of benefits to viewers and utilize an innovative kind of technology that allows them to offer a high quality picture to viewers. They have a contemporary design that makes them especially appealing, and they’re also lightweight – a definite benefit over conventional direct view televisions that contain old-fashioned cathode ray picture tubes.

LCD technology is centered around the use of liquid crystals, which are stored in in the television within transparent panels. These panels are attached and covered with a polymer that holds the liquid crystals. The crystals are heated by a current, which causes light to pass through them and results in the TV image. Because the crystals can’t generate their own light, a bulb is necessary in order for the viewer to see images on the screen.

LCD sets offer a number of benefits to viewers. Because LCD sets do not use phosphors, they require less power and emit less hear than other sets. No radiation is generated, either.
LCD sets are available in larger screen sizes than other sets, including plasma sets. They offer superior color contrast and produce good blacks and whites. They also feature excellent color quality and image tracking, with virtually no lag. There’s no screen burn or static, either. If you’re interested in watching HDTV, most LCD sets have the capability to support this high resolution format. Check to be sure that the LCD you’re considering can handle a vertical resolution of 720. Most sets have the requisite 1280x720 pixel resolution required for displaying HDTV.

LCD technology was first applied in the production of computer monitors, and LCD TV sets share many characteristics with computer displays. The majority of today’s LCD sets have are equipped to double as computer monitors. People who are looking to play videogames on their TVs might want to consider purchasing an LCD set. It will offer a good-sized display for gaming. People who want their LCDs to serve both as TVs and monitors should remember that the model they buy needs to have what’s called a VGA connection that’s included for use with the personal computer.

On the down side, LCD sets are more expensive to manufacture and as a result cost more than, say, a plasma set. You can get a 32-inch LCD set for about $1600. Large sets of 37 inches or more are more expensive. As the LCD technology is refined and perfected and the popularity of LCD sets grows, these televisions should appear on the market at more affordable prices. Overall, LCD sets offer a number of benefits to users, as they offer a wide range of video capabilities that aren’t available with other sets.
