Plans for a first-ever national WiFi system were nixed when the FCC found evidence that the network could jam GPS-enabled devices.

The company that endeavored to create the first-ever nation-wide system, LightSquared, transmits on a frequency that is close to the frequency used by manufacturers of GPS devices, such as a personal navigation device or systems for aircraft control.

Presently, LightSquared is not allowed to operate the network at all. Although the FCC originally granted LightSquared the approval for building the network, permissions were denied after the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) found the signal to interfere with these devices.

The NTIA has found that the signal broadcasted by LightSquared is stronger than the corresponding signal for these personal devices. This means the signals can get crossed, and the LightSquared signal can actually draw the GPS-enabled devices to it. This would result in the GPS being unable to connect to its own network.

Holographic technology may not be as far off into the future as some have predicted. Once considered more syfy than reality based, holographic technology is now made its way into living rooms through television, laptops, phones and other mobile devices.

True 3D Holographics work on a different scale than their former 2D counterparts. When the original breakthroughs were made in Japan in 2006, it was forecast then that true 3D holographic sets were in the near future.

The Claro holographic TV set is an example of a 2D counterpart. It offers viewers an incredibly bright, crisp image that can be seen in the most brightly lit rooms, but it is 2D in nature. It works by image projection on a screen displayed on a piece of glass that is 10 mm (3/16” to 7/16”) thick. Any projector can be used. The TV also comes with Ferguson speakers (optional). Consumers get the Ferguson Hill FH001 speakers for positioning on either side of the screen.

It’s time to pop that booty model style. On this week’s episode of America’s Next Top Model the girls start out in the house with bad blood. Laura has a minor, actually a rather major freak out moment when the stuffed animal that her dead friend gave her gets accidentally mutilated. She decides the blame the event on Kyle (who dropped its ear in the pool) instead of Sophie, the one who actually did the ripping. The event blows over but Laura is still holding grudges.

The girls are given a challenge for the week: performing and taping music videos. Naturally it is the Brits vs. the States and Lisa, the winner from ANTM All Stars is there to present the challenge. She also introduces each team’s mentors who are: Nadine Coyle from Girls Aloud, for the Brits, and Jessica Suttra from the Pussycat Dolls, for the Americans.

The girls go over their verses and come up with names for each other, Fiercely British and Unites Sirens of America.

The next day everyone meets at the recording studio to record their lyrics and the Brits definitely blow the Americans out of the water. They had presence and personality in the first take. Kyle, on the American team had a bit of trouble bringing sensuality to her part and Azmarie lacked genuineness.

The television has come a long way since its invention in 1926 (bet you didn’t know that huh?). Though TV didn’t really make noise until 1949-1959 where the number of TV sets went from 1 million to 50 million! That was a long time ago, and yet up to this day, television is still one of, if not the best mode of entertainment. There’s no question that TV has evolved through the years. Thanks to the amazing technological advancements, we are now at the mercy of New TV Technology.

New TV technology isn’t simply improved colors, bigger and thinner screens and all that hoopla. It’s so much more than just that. TV has grown into something unimaginable! If I told you 25 years ago that you would be wearing glasses to watch a 3D show on television, you wouldn’t have believed me. Today, that is obviously possible. In fact, new TV technology has become very advanced that there’s a new invention that allows you to watch 3D without the 3D glasses! Cool isn’t it?

The two got together over lunch and discussed their not so friendly or personal past as well as opposing friend groups and where they stood in each other’s eyes.

The lunch turned out to be rather calm and both Kim and Cynthia walked away unscathed and on cordial terms.

On a happier note, while Kim is away Kroy is at play. Kroy meets with Kim’s father and asks for his blessing to marry his daughter. Kim’s parents agree wholeheartedly and Kroy makes the arrangements for the engagement.

Meanwhile the scene switches to Kandi and it seems as though her dreams of making an adult toy line are becoming a reality. Kandi video chats with a friend Mathieu in Amsterdam who has been designing and engineering her products so that she will be ready for business in no time.

Phaedra is also busy with her dreams of becoming a prominent member of the funeral business. She meets with members of a grieving family and helps them plan their father’s funeral. After the said meetings Nene goes out to celebrate with her assistant and contemplates whether or not she should take the next step in her career and move to LA. She runs her concerns passed a number of celebrity friends that stop by and is left in further contemplation.

The show concludes with all of the women coming together for a bourgeois honorary ceremony that Phaedra invites them to. Despite the close proximity of Kim and Nene no one manages to cause a scene however they are all overcome by extreme boredom due to the longevity of the program. Kim eventually can’t take it anymore and calls Sheree outside to tell her the exciting news about her engagement.

Sheree seems overjoyed for Kim’s news, as well as with the 10 karat ring, and she agrees to be a bridesmaid in the wedding. The two go back inside and everyone survives the event unscathed and ready to fight another day.

The internet as you know it may be changing soon. It may have already changed for some. Thanks to Martin Casado, cofounder of Nicira, the internet could become more secure, cheaper and more available.

The internet is built on a series and collection of networks. When these networks connect to share information, it forms the internet. In order to connect to this vast network, there is a centralizing server that acts as a doorway and connection point. Servers are used by internet providers like Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Charter Cable.

With these services, people can get online and look up any topic their heart desires. The sheer number of networks it takes to be able to compile the search results and deliver the found information can be astronomical. There are currently hundreds of millions of networks branching out from all over the world. These networks are always connecting to bring you your recipes, games, music, news and online shows.

The problem with such a vast collection of networks is security. There are many areas that can be hacked into, and not all information is encrypted or coded as it should be.

This was one of the problems facing the United States intelligence agency that approached Casado, asking him to make it possible to close off parts of its large network for security reasons. The closure would be temporary, only long enough to allow sensitive bits of information to pass through securely.

Casado tried, but realized that, with the existing structure, it was not possible. After many years of research and study, Casado found what he felt was a solution to the problem.

By creating a type of software, Casada and his research partners were able to use virtualization. Virtualization is a process that allows software to act as a crucial piece of hardware by acting as a reproduction. This software actually does the job better than the original hardware. With virtualization, in this case, the software replaces the switches and routers that traditionally come as hardware. Routers are what connects networks to other networks, lacing them together with addresses and algorithms. The addresses and algorithms not only mark the placement of these networks, they also determine the shortest route to the network you need.

A switch is something that connects entire groups of networks. Instead of the old-fashioned network hubs, switches use the address to determine where to send the data in transit.

What this means for you is that the servers your provider uses can become safer, faster and more affordable. There are several companies that are already using this new approach to an old system. While this new system has many excited about the applications for existing and developing technologies, other are worried about what they might lose in the transition. Companies that operate world-wide to produce switches and routers, like Cisco, may suffer some loss or see a lack in production. While Casado wouldn’t comment on this directly, Cisco has been acknowledged in helping Nicira with developing products for the company.
