When cable TV was first introduced for commercial use in homes, everyone wanted it. It was a great source of entertainment for friends and family after work or school. There were children’s shows and movie channels, sports and news channels that covered local and regional events and music channels. After a while though, people wanted more, so cable TV providers stepped up to offer more channels, more choices and more programming packages to meet the needs and the budget of any family or individual.

The technology that made this possible started with the digital feed that cable TV providers used to bring better pictures and sound, more reliability in service with the added benefits of HDTV, or High Definition programming. Additional benefits go further to include the use of the DVR, or Digital Video Recorder that can be used with the Pay Per View option that was developed. DVR allows the user to fast forward, pause or rewind live television events like new movie releases or even championship fights or live music concerts. Parental Controls were also added to give the adults in the house the ability to control the content their children are watching on TV. They have the option of keeping their children away from adult content or inappropriate material for their age group. To add to the benefit of Cable TV, providers have added channels so that now they have the opportunity to provide up to two hundred and fifty channels with everything from weather to ethnic programming and the theater.

Digital technology also opened the door for faster internet connections and speeds, blowing dial up out of the water. Digital, or broadband connections, are up to three times faster than DSL and the connection is never lost, as with dial up. Downloads are available now faster than ever, allowing for larger file downloads or transfers to get the latest in games, music, movies or videos without the slow wait time. Cable TV has also made security enhancements for internet services like free security software that downloads and updates automatically. This gives added protection against spyware, viruses and unwanted popups.

Cable TV providers did not stop there, though. They took digital technology to the next level with digital phone services that can be included in the monthly bill for a bundled package, saving the consumer time and money. Many providers offer their local and long-distance plan to anywhere in the United States or Canada for one low monthly rate. Many calling plans include ten to twelve features like call forwarding, call waiting and caller id included in the monthly rate.

It is possible to get all of these features in one low monthly rate to avoid paying three providers every month. When bundled, these great services are discounted to offset the monthly cost and benefit any budget. Many people opt to get the bundles because of the services provided and the cheaper rates.

Cable TV providers and services have grown to include so much more than just Cable TV. With the added benefits and services provided by digital cable, phone and internet connections, Cable TV has grown to offer entertainment and quality communication services.

Dish Network made the news with their extraordinary HDTV 1080p, a formatting for television that is up to six times better than traditional HDTV formatting. This version was especially designed by Dish Network to be comparable to cinematic picture and sound quality. Dish Network’s HDTV 1080p has been compared to Blue Ray quality for the digital imaging and sound enhancement.
Dish Network proudly announced their opportunity to be the first pay-TV provider to air the A&E channel’s series “The Beast”, with the late Patrick Swayze. They will show it in their new HDTV 1080p formatting.

Dish Network customers have the option of watching their Dish Network channels in HD formatting, or using the new HDTV 1080p formatting on a Pay Per View, per movie basis. Dish Network has made this service easy and customer-friendly, downloading movies in the early am when there is less of a demand on the service and designing it to be used with the pre-existing remote that already comes with Dish Network service.

According to instructions, getting this high quality formatting is a simple process of selecting the DVR feature on the remote for an MPEG-4 HD DVR receiver, for customers that have it. After that, choose the DishONLINE feature. Alternatively, a customer can going to “Menu” on the remote control, selecting DISH On Demand and then DishONLINE. Look for the titles that have the 1080p after them on the list to get this feature. The HDTV 1080p movies are added to the customer’s DVR in the early morning hours, and are waiting on the customer the next day.

The first movie Dish Network aired in their HDTV 1080p is the movie I Am Legend, with actor Will Smith. Their selection has grown to include other movies available in the HDTV 1080p formatting, such as The Dark Knight, with Christian Bale, The Informers, Ghosts of Past Girlfriends, Next Day Air, Monsters and Aliens, Sunshine Cleaning, The Thaw and more. They also advertise coming movies like the new Disney Earth, being released October 16, 2009. With the enhanced imaging and surround sound quality, even the children in the home will be able to appreciate this educational and fun movie.

The new Dish Network feature has gotten positive reviews like the one from Brent Butterworth’s review, posted on CNET. Brent Butterworth is comparing the high-resolution quality to Blue-Ray, detecting only small differences. Another review posted from Sound & Video Magazine stated, “DISH 1080p immediately impressed me. [Its] brilliant colors and intricate details looked fantastic!”

These movies are stored on the Dish Network DVR, so customers have the option of using their DVR storage just for HDTV 1080p movies or using additional storage to keep their movies and their shows.

So far, Dish Network’s new HDTV 1080p formatting is a success among Dish Network customers, outshining other HD products and competing against Blue Ray quality. With more movies constantly becoming available in the HDTV 1080p formatting, there is no limit to the dramatic sight and sound improvements that come from this technological innovation.

Direct TV is an example of a satellite-broadcasting provider. The satellite dishes that come with their service are the receivers that transmit for service to the satellites Direct TV has in orbit over the earth. Although it was initially hard to get started, Dish Network has grown to include customers all over the United States. Although there was a time when cable TV providers had more to offer, Direct TV has grown to include features and options that are now competing or outdoing cable TV features and services.

Direct TV grew from a little known company with one dish to offer several dishes and over two hundred channels. They have developed several programming packages that can meet any monthly budget, many times, at cheaper rates than cable TV providers can offer them. The clear image and sound quality of their service has managed to impress almost everyone. They now boast of a customer base of up to 50 million consumers. Their programming content has grown to include children’s shows, music and sports channels, channels that offer 24/7 movies, and drama and lifetime shows.

Direct TV does not just offer programming packages. They offer programming packages that include ethnic, music and sports channels that cable TV providers do not offer. For the services and products that cable TV does have, Direct TV has developed their own.

They have several dishes and products that can be upgraded, with offers of free equipment or free installation on certain deals or packages. They automatically include Parental Controls to protect the young minds in the house from adult content and they offer a great movie selection along with local and cable channels. There is always something on to watch for everyone, no matter the time day or night, or the age.

Currently, they also offer goods and services like HDTV, the higher-resolution formatting that delivers the picture and sound with better quality and clarity. To take digital clarity to a new level, they also offer HDTV 1080p formatting, a resolution that was designed to mimic theater imaging and sound quality. Critics have stated the HDTV 1080p formatting as being comparable to Blue Ray. Direct TV also offers Pay Per View channels with the DVR, or the Digital Video Recorder that allows the viewer to watch live Pay Per View events like fights and music concerts with the ability to fast forward, rewind or pause them for convenience. The DVR is also useful as storage, to record shows on one channel while watching shows on another channel. The customer has the luxury of watching their shows on their time, without having to make time or change the schedule to do it. They do not have to miss what they want to watch while someone else takes a turn, the recorded shows are always there when they are ready to see them.

Direct TV has as much to offer as any cable TV package on the market today, without the additional cost that seems to come with the expensive cable TV providers. Often times, people prefer Direct TV to cable TV because of the competitive services and products and the more than competitive pricing.

Cable TV providers now include more services and products than they ever have. These products and services are designed to bring quality entertainment, in the form of digital cable and high-speed internet, and a necessary tool for communication through digital phone service.

For customers, this means digital quality and more reliable service at more affordable rates. For cable TV providers, this means a more efficient way to bring the needs and desires of the public to the home, on an individual basis. With the original cable lineup, that first became available for home use, there were limited channels with limited cable and a standard bill. Now the average customer has several choices over which programming package they want, and the monthly rate can be negotiated at sign up, with special pricing and deals the cable TV providers offer.

There have been additions of other products and services to monthly cable service that the original cable subscribers never thought of. Features such as Pay Per View channels, VOD, or Video on Demand and DVR units, or Digital Video Recorders are now available to all but the most basic monthly plan. The inclusion of these extra features has brought even more choices, options and luxuries to the table for the average household on a budget.

However, emerging technologies from other companies demanded even more, so to stay competitive, cable TV providers also developed additional products to add to their monthly services. Products like Broadband internet access, with increased speeds for surfing, streaming and downloading, have become extremely popular, because the internet connection is always on. Broadband is always connected, due to digital feed, which allows it to bring internet into the home, 24/7, at speeds that are faster than DSL, by three to eight Mbps, depending on the company. The outdated method of dial up, that dropped connections and literally took hours to download large files, simply cannot keep up with Broadband competition. People find that using Broadband, not only allows for quicker surfing times, but delivers more options for downloads, products and quality and clarity of videos, music and web cams.

Cable TV providers also grew to include digital phone services, with the inclusion of features like call waiting, which the phone companies are still charging for. Cable TV providers are able to bring digital clarity and reliable services, with the additional features added (ten to 12, depending on provider), for more affordable service and better connections. Many times, these providers can also add unlimited local and long-distance calling to predetermined areas or regions, for no additional charges. This allows them to stay competitive with the phone companies and the cellular carriers, allowing for cheaper monthly plans in the home, negating the need for expensive cell phone bills.

With the advancement of digital technologies and more cost-effective ways to produce quality products and services to the home, cable TV providers have answered several of the needs today’s family have. Today, families can get their basic communication and entertainment needs met through the local cable TV provider.

With advances in technology, there are a lot of viewing options with local Cable TV companies like Time Warner Cable that were not a part of original cable packages. When cable went digital, it opened a door to a world of possibilities, like HDTV, or High Definition Television, that gives crisper images and improved sound quality. Companies like Time Warner Cable offer such options to enhance viewing pleasure and to give the customer the most they can in customer services and products.

It is hard to remember what we did for entertainment before we had cable TV channels to keep us occupied. They help us keep up with our soaps and nighttime dramas or the local news, weather and sports. Cable has certainly advanced in programming, too, with the addition of up to two hundred and fifty channels to choose from. Programming alternatives have come in with the cable packages companies have put together to meet the needs of almost any budget. It is much different than when cable was originally made available to the public.

Now, there is something on for everyone, with kids’ shows, aired by Disney and Animal Planet, or ABCFamily. In addition, Mom and Dad have a lot more to choose from than just the original HBO and Cinemax channels that came with cable when it first came out. Or the adults have several sports channels now that keep them current on favorite teams, big games and scores.

Now, the entire family can be entertained with the touch of a button. For the families that choose options like the DVR, or Digital Video Recorder, they never have to worry about missing anything, because while they are watching one show, the DVR can record another one, to view later.

The biggest, most popular addition was the Pay Per View option that cable companies were able to offer through digital feed. With Pay Per View, companies like Time Warner were able to bring “real time” championship fights and games to the comfort of the family living room. Used with the DVR function, the Pay Per View option gets even better, because DVR makes it possible to fast forward through commercials or pause live television to restock on snacks. Pay Per View also offers newly released movies to save time and money at the movie store.

Digital feed also allowed cable companies to promote better products that were more reliable. Remember the days when the cable would go out if it stormed too hard? Now, the feed is stronger and more durable, able to withstand bad weather. It is there as a useful tool for forecasts and emergency weather bulletins.

Digital feed has given the cable industry a make over. With new advances in technology and performance, we can only imagine what may be right around the corner for home entertainment in the future. Whatever it may be, local companies like Time Warner Cable are sure to be at the forefront for providing their customers with the latest in cable programming products and services.

In today’s economy, it is hard to get ahead, or just to stay afloat in business, depending on the product or service that is sold. For the entrepreneur that wants to start a business and get the word out, the prospect of paying much needed money for professional advertising can be daunting.

The fact is that, usually, there just are not enough customers for a new business to cover the overhead and turn the profit needed. In order to get customers, a business owner usually needs to advertise, and advertise in the appropriate places, to make sure his or her product or service is seen and/or heard by the right crowd.

For the struggling entrepreneur or new business owner, Cable TV might offer some relief in the form of cheaper advertising rates.

Depending on your Cable TV provider, the rates can vary from company to company. Or they can vary according to different service areas handled by the same company. All information and rates should be verified and confirmed to ensure the best rate possible for your company at the time of sign-up.

Cable TV ads are cheaper than billboards, long-standing newspaper advertisements or full-page ads, and cost less to get more exposure. Get your commercial on an entertainment medium that is viewed by thousands of potential customers daily. Cable TV reaches people in your neighborhood or people on the other side of town. Let everyone know that your business is open and ready to serve.

This offers anyone the opportunity to accomplish their advertisement goals on a much smaller budget, with the potential of reaching more people. With the help of advertising on your local Cable TV network, you get the benefit of hundreds of viewers at differing times of the day and night, which can catch everybody, no matter what their work schedule is.

Cable TV companies can help you get the word out through their local channels, showing a small company logo on the screen, or some companies actually take it one-step further and offer short commercials that can be shown with commercials from other local businesses on one channel. Other Cable TV companies can send professional photographers to your place of business to take pictures and place their pictures of your business, with a company message and show them on the TV Guide channel. Everyone that tunes in that night to see what is on the Guide will see your advertised product or service.

And, although they do cost more your other two options for Cable TV advertising would be The Weather Channel, with the scrolling messages along the bottom of the screen. The Weather Channel has done this for years. The other option would be a full screen ad, which, unlike The Weather Channel and the TV Guide, will give your business full-screen exposure, with more attention drawn to your company.

Find out what your local cable TV provider can do for your business and your budget. Your Cable TV provider wants to help your business grow and save you some of the money you work so hard for.

CNET.com is a trusted, well-respected online product and software review site. It gives up-and-coming software developers a forum to try out new products, allowing them to get consumer feedback, before they go on the market. The site is used by beginners and well-known programming talents, giving free software, or free-to-try software for PCs, digital cameras and cell phones, both for technical and recreational uses. CNET built their site to be both programmer and user-friendly, with any one software product having up to 100,000 downloads or more at any one time. CNET.com also provides honest reviews on the latest technology and products, pointing out the good and bad points, for the general public that wants a professional opinion, or that just does not have time to hunt down all the information themselves.

CNET.com has reviewed Dish Network products, like their Dish Network ViP722 HD DVR. This product was picked as CNET’s Editor’s Choice for February 2008, and received four out of five stars on CNET’s Editor’s Rating. A four star rating from CNET, as stated on their website, means, “A product that receives a rating in this range is superior in so many ways that its relatively few drawbacks are not very important”.

CNET’s product summary stated that Dish Network’s ViP722 HD DVR has a high capacity and receives and records new MPEG-4 AVC programming. This includes the local channels and HD channels that were not previously viewable with older models of Dish Network receivers. They go on to list the 30-second skip function for commercials, and the dual output that can accommodate a second TV. They also gave a good report for the Dish Network ViP722 HD DVR’s capability to record up to three High Definition shows at once, all while playing back a fourth show for viewing. CNET closed their positive product review complimenting the Dish Network’s receiver for its quick response time, “well-designed, highly customizable interface” and the search function on the receiver that includes search history. The editor also noted the remote control, calling it “superb”, the receiver’s “impressive image quality”, and the USB port that allows for media players and hard drives for more storage.

The user reviews listed on this site included quotes such as,” This is an incredible product.” with “Excellent quality picture; sufficient HD channel choices!” listed among the pros of the Dish Network ViP722. Other quotes were, “ Stable & responsive” and “Very easy to set up and use.”

While there were some cons listed about the Dish Network ViP722, the CNET “bottom line” on this product states, ”The Dish Network ViP622 and 722 are among the most fully featured and versatile high-def DVRs you can buy today.”

CNET has also reviewed other Dish Network products such as the Dish Network ViP622 with 200-hour DVR, the Dish Network TR-40 CRA and the Dish Network DTVPal, converter boxes with an electronic program guide, the Dish Network DVR 510 with 200-hour DVR, the Dish Network DP625 and more.

CNET gave good reviews to a good product that will do the job it was built for.

With so many forms of identity theft, fraud, scams and abuses of personal information to protect and defend ourselves against daily, it’s nice to know that Charter Cable not only adds protection to their customers through their online services, but also puts their own privacy policy up on their website to let their customers know what information is collected and why.

Charter Cable uses Digital Globe Services, one of their affiliates to handle any information collection. As the Charter Cable Privacy Policy states, “Digital Globe Services, LLC (DGS) respects and is committed to protecting your privacy”. They go on to state what basic customer information is collected and what it is used for, such as Shipping and Billing addresses, Email addresses, Customer Name and Credit Card numbers.

This information is used to simplify the process of bill pays, initial orders for service, or to send order confirmations and other necessary communications relating to service changes, rebate redemptions and special offers. The privacy policy goes on to state that DGS may share information with 3rd parties to verify the identity of the online shopper, to make sure it’s really you using your credit card, or to process the order with shipping information or the credit card company.

Digital Globe Services makes it clear that they will not “share, rent, lease, or sell your personal information (e.g. your email address, your credit card information, your name, your address, etc.) to any third party for their independent use or benefit.”

Additionally, Charter Cable is up to date on the Phishing scams that are used to gain personal information from unsuspecting internet surfers, and specifically, Charter Cable customers. Charter Cable provides customer support in the form of their News and Alerts page on the Charter Cable homepage. These alerts give examples of appearance of emails sent in phishing scams and information on what to look for, provided as a free service to help the customer protect his or her privacy and the privacy of the family. Their News and Alerts page gives up to nine examples of Phishing emails, with specific information on the phishing scams that have been geared towards Charter Communications.

In general, the emails come with threats to discontinue email accounts that are not “verified” with personal information, such as user names and passwords and addresses. If read carefully, some of the phishing emails have misspellings or spellings that are not typically used in America, like the spelling “centre” for the word “center”, etc. And, while others do look quite professional, with the Charter Cable logo, and technical terms such as System Wide Security Audit or SWSA, used to lure unsuspecting customers into thinking Charter Cable had to initiate such a procedure due to problems in the system, Charter Cable has repeatedly stated that they would not request such personal information be relayed over an unsecured channel, like email.

Charter Cable is concerned for the online security of their customer’s personal information and strives to give the best security they possibly can, while allowing the customer the freedom to surf the web and pay bills and shop without the added burden of worrying about the personal information that is going out the Internet.
