This is the archive for September 2009
When the Internet became public domain, no one could have predicted the growth and popularity it gained. Today, although almost everyone uses the Internet for everything from chatting to online banking, people do not often stop to think about the rules set in place to govern the use and free enterprise that can be found online.
Internet regulation was introduced in 2004 by Chairman Michael Powell. It was later passed, in 2005 as a policy statement by the FCC with Chairman Kevin Martin, with full support by Commissioner Michael Copps. Since then, there have been other policies added or changed, geared toward fair practices and “openness” , put in place to ensure that no one company could make it difficult or impossible for other companies or individuals to use the Internet or grow online. The four basic policies passed in 2005 are summed up by Julius Genachowski, FCC Chairman as,” Network operators cannot prevent users from accessing the lawful Internet content, applications, and services of their choice, nor can they prohibit users from attaching non-harmful devices to the network.”
In 2009, Chairman Genachowski wants to introduce two additional regulations, siting violations from certain companies as the need for more. The first would be one of non-discrimination. This principle states that a provider “cannot block or degrade lawful traffic over their networks, or pick winners by favoring some content or applications over others in the connections to subscribers’ homes. Nor can they disfavor an Internet service just because it competes with a similar service offered by that broadband provider. The Internet must continue to allow users to decide what content and applications succeed.” The other principle would be that of transparency, making it necessary for network providers to disclose network management practices.
David Cohen, Executive Vice President for Comcast Broadband, feels these principles, if passed, would change the way cable providers, cell phone carriers such as T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon and hundreds of other companies conduct business online. Typically, anything that affects such big-name providers will affect smaller companies and, ultimately, the consumer. Cohen posted a blog on Comcast Voices, a blog site published by http://comcast.scnes.com/comcast-special-deals-.html as “a place for conversations with Comcast”, to comment about these new internet regulations that are being discussed.
In his post, David Cohen states his complete agreement with Chairman Genachowski for the need for “openness” and points out Comcast’s compliance with FCC regulations and his willingness, as Executive Vice President for Broadband, to comply with any regulations that come from the FCC in the future. However, Cohen questions the need for more regulations that would be unnecessary, and reminds the reader of the growth that the internet has already seen under current laws that have been in effect since 2005. He also points out the Network Management Practices that Comcast already has in place, for the transparency Genachowski seeks. Cohen’s question was one of the necessity for more regulation, not the necessity for regulation in general. As Cohen stated,“ So it’s still fair to ask whether increased regulation of the Internet is a solution in search of a problem.” Only time and the FCC can tell.

Getting a new HDTV can be an exciting thing for you and your family. There are a lot of benefits that come with having an HDTV. For example, it will mean that you're prepared for the digital TV transition in February of 2009 because HDTV sets have the digital tuners that will be necessary in order to watch over the air TV signals after the analog versions are phased out at that time. An HDTV will also allow you to take advantage of some of the best new video gaming systems that are designed to display their graphics in high definition! In addition, your new HDTV will allow you to take advantage of the great experience of watching movies on Blu-ray discs. However, if you don't have access to HDTV programming then you won't be taking full advantage of your HDTV set and thanks to its new Turbo HD service, Dish Network is now the best source of this HDTV programming.

Dish Network offers million of households quality service through a direct broadcast satellite service. With the satellite dish this company is so famous for, this service can give the customer viewing and listening options with television and audio programming. Started in 1995 by EchoStar, Dish Network has advanced from one satellite to at least 13 satellites, with service all over the United States and parts of Canada. Their dish system is said to be able to deliver up to five hundred channels, per dish.
In 2008, Dish Network split from its parent company, EchoStar. Dish Network now focuses on marketing sales and service in the United States, while the company EchoStar Corporation runs the satellite and signal system.
Dish Network has added features like HDTV, or High Definition Television. Dish Network has developed their form of this product, in the form of HDTV 1080p, to give up to six times more clarity than that of standard HDTV. The upgraded version was made to mimic the quality of theater sound and image, so that Dish Network customers can have a cinematic experience while sitting in the comfort of their own living room. Their DVR, short for Digital Video Recorder, can record up to 55 hours of HDTV and up to 350 hours of standard television. They also added Parental Controls with every service. It is a standard service that protects impressionable minds from adult content and mature themes.
Dish Network has not only expanded but also improved on their products and services. They changed their original Dish 1000 dish system to include at least three other orbital locations. This allowed them the ability to bring more customers the HDTV channels they wanted. Now, instead of needing two dishes to receive HDTV formatting, Dish Network customers can receive it all with one, the Dish 1000.2. The newer dish is ten percent larger than the older dishes, to answer problems with low signal strength. It also comes with an integrated LNB to make installation easier.
Dish Network not only provides programming for English speaking United States natives, but also offers programming in foreign languages like Chinese and Spanish. They have a diverse ethnic channels to bring the flavors of home to travelers staying in the US or Canada.
Dish Network has the ability to offer its customers programming packages that can meet the demands of the family budget and the home entertainment. Dish Network offers over two hundred and fifty channels, depending on the programming package chosen, and has some channels and features that are exclusive to Direct Network alone. An example of this is the CMT channel’s “CMT Invitation Only” programming that will feature concerts and country music stars that will only be available to Dish Network customers. DishPronto.com is one of the country's largest dealers Dish Network retailers.
Dish Network has come a long way since EchoStar launched their first satellite in 1995. They have grown to provide service for over twelve million households nationwide. They provide customer service, products and services that rival Direct TV and cable television companies, even providing free dishes and products for select packages.

In recent years, in the interest of staying competitive, cable companies like Charter Cable have added services and products to offer the customer more. Traditionally, cable TV companies were a single service provider. Now they offer digital phone and internet services that surpass traditional analog services. Analog phone service did provide a necessary benefit, when needed. But it could leave the customer wanting for better reception and a dial up connection that was adequate for large downloads and decent surfing time on the web.
With the expansion of services and products, including the digital expansion of cable TV services, the need for user-friendly interfacing has increased also. For better service, Charter Cable offers a homepage that can be personalized with the customer’s interests and needs, providing links to the customer’s favorite spaces, all in one spot. Many use their personalized homepages as a “jumping off” point for surfing the web, catching up on sports favorites, new music videos, or checking the email account that comes included with Charter Cable internet services.
Charter Cable provides links on their homepage for news, sports, and a local section that allows the viewer to get local classifieds, houses for sale, and local community events. Charter Cable’s sports section has updates and news on the MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, College Football, College Basketball, the PGA, LPGA, and Auto Racing. The page can also be set to pull up information on local cinemas for the current list of new releases in that particular area. For gamers, Charter Cable has free online games and for music fans, a monthly music subscription is offered under their music link.
Charter Cable also offers the Variety Pack online that allows access to over 500 games with no ads and no time limits, plus other features like the americangreetings.com link that allows the customer to make and email or print cards for friends and family. The CleverIsland.com link gives the young minds in the house more tools to learn and grow with, the Weather Channel for information on local and nationwide weather, vacation destinations, and environmental information, the Encyclopedia Britannica link that gives access to online articles, images, videos and atlases, and The NHL and MLB links that give condensed footage of games and recaps.
The customer can make the decision on what information to add or remove from the page to suite individual or family needs. Charter Cable provided something for everyone, allowing everyone in the family to find what they need, all on one page. Having a personalized homepage on the broadband internet service gives the customer a quicker way to find everything that is needed or used on a regular basis, without having to hunt each site or service down one at a time. The personalized homepage is just another way to bring convenience to the home.
When cable TV providers gained the ability to give customers digital channels, broadband internet services and quality phone services, it opened the door to possibilities for features and products that were not formally available to homes. Families in need of quick dependable internet, phone and cable services now have a provider with Charter Cable that they can depend on.

With so many choices available for home entertainment options today, it can be hard to make a choice on what option to go with. Satellite, or dish networks offer as much variety, with as many features as Cable TV companies do. In addition, Cable TV companies offer more than they ever have, due to breakthroughs in digital services and products.
While making the right choice really comes down to what is best for the individual or family, many are choosing Cable TV companies because of the variety and convenience of their products, programming and services.
These services come with options dish or satellite networks do not provide, like the addition of broadband internet services and digital phone services. Cable TV can now provide their customers with digital quality and amazingly fast internet connections that are always on. These options add cost-effective value and convenience to any Cable TV package, providing more than just a show to watch on TV at the end of a long, hard day.
The Cable TV package itself provides more features than traditionally available, because of the addition features like HDTV, or High Definition Television, the DVR, or Digital Video Recorder and Pay Per View for championship fights and new movie releases. The digital pictures and sound quality have grown with advancements in technology, that also allow for service that is more reliable. Depending on the provider, Cable TV customers have between two hundred and fifty to two hundred and seventy-five channels to choose from and many providers have at least three programming packages for families or individuals at different financial levels.
Digital broadband for internet services, now provided by the local Cable TV company, has negated the need for waiting on slow, unreliable connections through analog phone lines. Downloads that use to require hours and large amounts of ram to operate have been given the option of broadband that can literally only take seconds for large music, video and movie files.
Many Cable TV companies give digital phone service for sound clarity and reliability that includes standard features like caller ID, call waiting, voicemail and more. They offer these features and service for local and long-distance calling that does not rely on monthly minutes, and calling on weekends and “off-peak” hours to give good service. Usually, the entire calling package is given at one rate for the entire month with unlimited calling in the United States and some plans include Canada.
While these products are available separately, many customers choose to do the package bundles that allow one bill and monthly rate for three or even two services every month.
Satellite or dish companies do have good programming packages, with competitive pricing, however they do not have the added bonus of phone and internet service, necessities in today‘s households. Busy families want convenience with quality programming and easy bill pay options. For many, the solution has been the Cable TV company, with improved services and products that provide the three basics for entertainment and communication needs that most families require.

If you're interested in subscribing to a Dish Network programming package, then you've probably gotten the impression that you'll have a wide range of choices of different kinds of satellite receivers. Like all choices, this one can be confusing and it's probably more confusing than many of the choices that you have to make because of the fact that there are so many technical details to manage. However, once you know a little bit about the receivers and the process of getting one, it's not nearly as intimidating.

When deciding on which TV service provider to use, the average customer first decides whether satellite TV or cable TV makes more sense. Cable TV is often the choice for people in more populated areas because it is what they are used to. However, there has been a trend towards people in both rural and populated areas choosing satellite TV over cable TV in recent years. There are many reasons for this trend, but among the most important are the fact that satellite TV providers tend to offer a lot more advanced programming options such as more HD entertainment and because satellite TV tends to be much cheaper than cable for similar amounts of entertainment. This has made satellite TV a very strong player in the TV entertainment field and, as cable costs continue to increase quickly, the trend is likely to continue. DishPronto.com is one of the country's largest dealers Dish Network retailers.
