monthly subscribers in the United States. Since 2001, Direct TV has grown by about one million customers a year. Their main competitor is Dish Network, another television and music service provider through satellite transmission.
Direct TV gained popularity with its customers for professional customer service, being awarded several J.D. Powers’ and Associates awards. J.D. Powers and Associates also named Direct TV as ranking high in the four regional polls for the United States. Direct TV is also known for providing the latest in products and services. Their prices are generally more reasonable than monthly subscriptions through cable TV providers and their products and services are comparable. They offer deals and promotions, like free installations or free equipment, plus monthly packages that start at very competitive rates.
For programming and viewing features, they offer HDTV, or High Definition Television, as well as HDTV 1080p. The HDTV 1080p offers resolutions up to six times higher than that of standard broadcasting formats, for extreme clarity in the sound and picture quality of the image. The 1080p formatting has been compared to Blue Ray technology. The movies shown in this formatting can be found in the DIRECTV on DEMAND feature that gives the viewer a selection of new movie releases and older movies and programs to watch. Direct TV also offers Pay Per View channels, and a DVR or Digital Video Recorder that can record shows on one channel while the viewer is watching another channel. The DVR option can be set in person or online. The DVR service is also used to control the picture on live TV events for Pay Per View selections, so that the user is actually able to fast forward, rewind or pause the events in real time.
They have a large selection of channels and own their own network. It is called The 101 Network that is only available to Direct TV subscribers. They offer several programming packages including everything from children’s programming to DIY channels and cultural channels. Dish Network also has other features that are comparable to the products and services offered by cable TV providers. These services include HDTV programming and HDTV 1080p programming. The difference is in the resolution. Whereas HDTV programming is comparable to other, well-known forms of HDTV, their HDTV 1080p formatting has up to six times the resolution as standard formats and is comparable to Blue Ray technology. This format of HD was designed to mimic the sight and sound enhancements of a movie theater, so the entire family can enjoy the movie theater experience sitting in their own homes. Most people prefer this, since it saves them time and money that would otherwise be spent in a movie theater.
Dish Network, like cable TV providers, offers a DVR, or Digital Video Recorder that can record up to 90 hours of programming. The customer has everything they need in one spot to catch up on a series or to watch the movie they missed before. The DVR is also used with the wide variety of Pay Per View selections to fast forward, rewind or pause the live television events found there. The DVR is a popular feature because it allows Dish Network customers to rewind and watch a particular scene or play over again.
Dish Network also has very popular specialized sports packages, including their newest addition, Versus. They also offer their customers their ESPN Interactive, an application that gives sports fan a “dashboard”, which lists the ESPN channels all in one place so that the viewer does not have to go searching for their favorite sports channel. This application is also meant to give immediate access to important news, TV schedules and scores. The sports products and channels that Dish Network offers are convenient and informative.
For detailed information on Dish Network products and services, a quick look on their webpage, at dish network.com, can answer many questions. For those that need more help, they have supplied a live chat service and FAQs. This website also keeps the viewer up to date with the latest products and services, innovations in Dish Network technology, sneak peeks at up and coming movie and programming attractions, exclusive deals and promotions for Dish Network customers, and more. This page is a valuable resource for curious surfers and existing Dish Network customers.
Dish Network has many products and services that are comparable to or better than cable TV. They offer quality products and services that provide customer satisfaction to over 18 million households nationwide.

Cable Packages themselves have grown, as well. With more of a channel selection, cable TV providers can give better options for cable packages to allow more of an individual fit for the individual household. These packages range from the basic programming that allows basic channels for an economic monthly package to more expensive programming that provides every channel and option the cable provider carries. It is even possible to get certain packages that are exclusively for sports. With the introduction of digital cable, the possibilities are growing quickly.
Digital cable also allows the cable TV provider to give their customers better service with options like Pay Per View and VOD, or Video On Demand that gives access to pre-released and newly released movies and programs.
The introduction to digital cable also opened the door for other services provided by the cable TV company. With digital feeds, they can provide broadband internet services that are always connected, so they are always on. This service is up to six times faster than the DSL internet service provided through the phone company. With the addition of broadband internet services, the ability to surf faster became a reality. Larger downloads were possible at faster speeds, so it became easier to download music, games, movies and videos in shorter periods of time. Now, certain cable TV providers are also offering free security software to make a faster surfing experience safer as well. People now feel more secure shopping and doing online banking or chatting with friends and gaming.
Digital cable also made the digital phone services that cable TV providers now offer available. Most cable TV providers offer unlimited calling in the United States, and some offer it in Canada, as well. This unlimited calling is good for local and long distance, anytime, anywhere. The sound quality is superior to analog and is more reliable. Many companies also offer calling features with their services at no extra cost, like call waiting, call return, call forwarding and others. Cable TV providers have also offer a new twist on voice mail. Now they give it to customers as an included feature and send email notifications when a new voice mail is received. These voice mails can be checked online.
The newest benefit in service through a cable TV provider is to optimize services and budgets by bundling. Cable TV providers offer bundled services to allow a family to get everything they need on one bill and one discounted rate per month. These bundles help save time and money by allowing all three services to be put on one bill.
Digital cable has changed a lot for the monthly cable subscriber.

Besides the products and services Time Warner Cable already offers, they are adding a new channel, Lo Mejor On Demand or LMOD. This channel offers programming in its original Spanish language, to cater to the Hispanic, native Spanish speakers and bilingual Hispanics that prefer programming in their native tongue. Time Warner Cable has found that, statistically, over half of these viewers have not taken advantage of any of the free On Demand selections in the last month. To rectify this, Time Warner Cable has collaborated with Univision to offer premium Spanish programs, such as Wake-Up America or Despierta America, ShowBiz TV or Escandalo TV and The Scoop and The Skinny or El Gordo y La Flaca. The shows broadcast on LMOD will come from leading Hispanic and Spanish networks like Univision, Galavision and TeleFutura. These networks are among the top networks that will give the Hispanic community the touch of home and familiarity in cable TV programming they lack right now.
According to Tonia O’Conner, the Univision Executive Vice President of Distribution Sales and Marketing, "The partnership between Univision and Time Warner Cable allows us to bring our viewers more of the entertainment that they love, when they want it," said Tonia O'Connor, Executive Vice President, Distribution Sales and Marketing for Univision. "We are proud to be part of Lo Mejor On Demand(TM) and are fully committed to helping Time Warner Cable enrich their Spanish-language offering." This is the first time a partnership like this has been forged between cable TV providers.
Other shows that will be broadcast on this channel are Nuestra Belleza Latina or Our Latin Beauty, Don Francisco Presenta, the Premios Juventud youth awards, Escandalo TV, Cristina, Sabado Gigante or Giant Saturday, Republica Deportiva or Sports Republic and more. Launch dates for this channel are set in 2010, currently.
Univision serves up to 95% of all Hispanic households in the United States. They own and operate 64 television stations currently in the United States and Puerto Rico through Galavision. TeleFutura serves up to 85% of all Hispanic United States households and covers basic interest topics.
Time Warner Cable, with Univision, has taken the next step to bringing home a little closer for the Hispanic community.
Time Warner Cable ranks second in the nation as a provider for cable TV products and services. These services are separately or with Road Runner High-Speed Online, a service that is up to four times faster than DSL and digital phone services with unlimited local and long distance calling to anywhere in the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico.
